Capturing Long Island Family Memories & Love

I’ve been putting off this blog post for so long because there is so much I want to say about this beautiful family and also so much I’m afraid I’ll say wrong. But I’m working on doing things without worrying if it’s perfect so here it goes!

I had the pleasure of meeting these guys when I photographed their firstborn son Adam about 9 years ago. They were so sweet and easy going, I knew I liked them right away. Soon after that I had the pleasure of photographing Adam for his first birthday. Then came his sister Emily’s newborn photos, and 1st birthday!

Around 2 years later I saw a post on Facebook about how Adam was very sick and had been in the hospital for months. My heart dropped. He was diagnosed with Degos Disease a rare childhood disorder. I’ll never forget going to sit Shiva for him and being comforted by Dina and Evan when I started crying. Talk about embarrassing. They lost their child and I couldn’t hold it together. But that’s who they are and that’s why I’m so inspired by them.

I was honored to photograph their rainbow baby, little Adelyn that year and then their second little boy Daniel. Throughout every session you can feel Adam with them and see so much of him in the faces of their other children. In the family photo on the couch below you can see a photo of Adam hanging behind them.

I can’t begin to imagine all they’ve been through. But I love to see their beautiful family today, living their best lives and continuing to make sure Adam’s memory lives on. On Adam’s birthday every year they encourage everyone to have sweets before dinner, one of Adam’s favorite things. You can check out the hashtag #treatsbeforedinner to see some of the photos posted in his honor. There is so much more to their story but since it’s not mine to share I’ll just leave you with this article I came across in their Facebook group (http://bit.ly/PrayersforAdamL) written about Adam written soon after he passed. http://liherald.com/bellmore/stories/Adam-Lefkowitz-A-short-but-impactful-life,62674?fbclid=IwAR0hg5zOUvDM6WjKfokUbEZBFtNe0TTy6zLjJw4-mSW4atWUMIRun8Kax88
