Lifestyle newborn sessions take place in your home, usually within the first 2 weeks after your baby is born. These sessions tell the story of your family during one of the most exciting times in your lives. While it might seem like the worst, most stressful, exhausting time, I promise you’ll look back on it and miss it. Or you won’t even remember most of it! I want to capture the moments and little details that you don’t realize you’ll miss one day!
When I first arrive to your home, I’ll take a look around to see which rooms have the best light. I often photograph in the master bedroom, the nursery, and living room. I have no problem clearing off night tables or any clothing left hanging around but if it can be done before I arrive to save time, even better! I’ll turn off all room lights and open up the shades for more natural light. If possible I suggest keeping the house a little warmer than usual. Even though we might be a little uncomfortable, the baby will be happier. And the happier the baby, the smoother the session!
I suggest wearing comfortable, simple, coordinating outfits. Neutral colors always work great for newborn sessions. No logos or loud patterns. Keep in mind your home will be warm so dress accordingly. I bring simple wraps for the baby, but if you have any special outfits or props you’d like the baby photographed with, just let me know!
Most importantly, relax. If you’re stressed, the baby will feel it and will feed off that anxiety. It’s normal to be a little nervous when being photographed but the more you can forget the about camera and enjoy your family, the better! I love to capture those real, in between moments. I’ll also do some light posing to help keep things moving, especially in the beginning. And if the baby is hungry or needs to be changed, I wait! That gives me time to get to know any siblings, even the four legged kind 🙂
I got to meet lots of four legged friends during this newborn session and loved every minute of it! These guys had to wait a very long time for their little miracle so the love and happiness was just pouring out. It was contagious, I definitely held back a few tears at times. I’m so grateful that I was able to capture this time for them. <3
